AP Scores Ranges to Receive College Credit

AP Score Range Required for College Credit (and number of credits awarded)

  • Use this link to research individual college's policies regarding granting of college credit based on AP scores.
  • The AP Score range for college credit is dependent on each college's own policies and will vary from college to college.
  • The more selective colleges will require a higher AP score in order to award college credit.
  • Some colleges may also grant additional college credits, in access of 3 or 4 credits for the course, to give students extra credits in the elective or humanities area.
  • These additional credits will be applied towards the total credits required for college graduation.

NOTE:  Enrolling in AP courses, and doing well, is the most important factor for college admissions - not what AP score you receive. The AP score will only determine if you may possibly also be awarded college credit. AP courses are taught at the college level so by doing well in a rigorous AP course goes a long way to prove to college admissions representatives that you are college ready. Being granted college credit should considered just a bonus!
