Scholarships Made Available to Newfane HS During the School Year

    • Oct. 6 - A Bridge to Justice 2023 Essay/Video Contest Two $500 awards available (one for a high school junior or senior and one for a college level student).  Essay/Video Contest for high school juniors and seniors and college students who reside in Western New York or attend a high school or college in Western New York (including the following counties: Niagara, Erie, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, Allegany, Wyoming, Genesee, and Orleans).  Written essay or video submission accepted. 
    • Nov. 13 - Elks Lodge Most Valuable Student Scholarship -  480 scholarships worth $4,000 and 20 scholarships worth $30,000 are available.  Must be a high school senior who is a US citizen. Applicants do not need to be related to a member of the Elks Lodge in order to be eligible and apply.  Students must apply online.
    • Dec. 1 - The Hagan Scholarship - Scholarship recipients receive up to $7500 per semester for up to 8 consecutive semesters. Must be a high achieving academic student (> 3.5 GPA = > 90% GPA) who will enroll at an eligible 4 yr. college/university and whose family adjusted gross income for 2022 is less than $85,000.  See website for all eligibility requirements and specifics.
    • Dec. 15 - PTA Jenkins Memorial Scholarship - Must plan on majoring in education at a SUNY college (4 yr. or can start at a 2 yr. with plans to transfer to a 4 yr. SUNY).
    • Jan. 5- Ontario Shores FCU Scholarship - $1000 scholarship available to an OSFCU member's graduating college-bound Newfane senior student. 
    • Jan. 5 - Niagara's Choice Credit Union Scholarship - The applicant must be a member in good standing of a participating New York credit union who meets all of the following criteria: 
      • Is a college-bound high school senior at the time of submitting the application
      • Is attending college for the first time in the fall of 2024
      • Will be enrolled in either a two- or four-year accredited educational institution
      • Agrees to use any scholarship funds awarded by January 31, 2025, at an accredited educational institution only 
    • Jan. 15- The Western NY Law Enforcement Helpline Scholarship -  $1000 scholarship available to a WNY Senior student who has at least one parent who has worked in any law enforcement field.  Must also be planning on attending a 2 or 4 year college/university full time and plan on majoring in a "helping field" such as: criminal justice, mental health, education, medical field, etc.  Must also have at least a cumulative GPA of 80%.
    • Jan. 31 - Youth Humanitarian Award in Memory of Stanley Marcus  - Open to Senior or Junior high school students who display humanitarian principles by word and deed.
    • Feb. 1 - Firefighter Arno Memorial (FAM) Scholarship -  $2500 for up to four years for a graduating college-bound (2 or 4 year college) WNY Senior student.  Must be the son or daughter of a local first responder, which includes:  firefighters, police officers, EMT/Paramedics, corrections officers, or 911 call takers/emergency services dispatchers.  
    • Feb. 5 -  Barge Canal Optimist Club Oratorical Contest - Oratorical contest for students under the age of 19 and not enrolled in college).  District level awards are:  1st place $2500, 2nd place $1500, and 3rd place is $1000. View this contest informational sheet
    • Feb. 14 - Niagara University Vincentian Scholars - Must have applied to NU, been accepted and plan to attend Niagara University.  $5000 per year scholarship if the student maintains a 3.25 GPA (88%).  Must be involved in community service.
    • Feb. 16 - Zonta Club of Lockport Young Women in Public Affairs Award - $750+ award available to graduating FEMALE seniors (under the age of 19). 
    • Feb. 23 - NCCC Distinguished Student Scholarship - Scholarship of 2 yrs. "tuition-free" education.  Must be graduating from a Niagara County high school in June 2024 with at least a Regents Diploma.  Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better (or a "B" avg. of 83-85%).  Must plan to enroll full-time at NCCC matriculated into a major.  Must have previous volunteer community service and demonstrated involvement in high school activities.
    • Feb. 23 - Niagara Orleans Counselors Association (NOCA) Scholarship -  7 different scholarships available.  Students can apply to multiple scholarships with the same application.  Students must be college-bound.  For the Canisius, NU, NCCC, and GCC awards, students must be accepted into a full-time program and attend that college to receive the award.  Neatness and thorough completion of the scholarship applications are very important. Students do NOT need to submit 7 copies - just one.  Mr. Smith will attach your transcript and report card once submitted/received.   Mr. Smith is a member of NOCA.
    • (Feb. 27 - NYS Academic Excellence Scholarship - This scholarship is not available to the general senior student population.  Newfane has been allocated 4 scholarships and based on the scholarship selection guidelines of choosing students by class rank at the end of the junior year, only the top 4 senior students can be nominated/submitted.)
    • Mar. 1 - NCCC Foundation Scholarships - Many scholarships available for incoming, and current, NCCC students. Most Spring scholarship deadlines are March 1, though could vary.
    • Mar. 1 - Hagan Scholarship - $7500 scholarship for each semester for up to 8 consecutive semesters.  Basic eligibility: Graduate from high school, achieve at least a 3.5 GPA (> 90%), must enroll in a college in the fall semester after high school graduation, must be able to graduate college in 4 years or less, family's adjusted gross income reported for 2022 Federal Income Taxes can not exceed $100,000, and must work 240 hours prior to commencement of the fall semester in college. 
    • Mar. 8 – The Junior League of Buffalo Scholarship - Three $2000 scholarships available to graduating FEMALE high school seniors who have demonstrated a strong commitment to community service and volunteerism in their WNY community.
    • Mar. 15 – Character Council of WNY Scholarships - Several $1000 Character Excellence Scholarships to be awarded to college-bound graduating Senior students from any high school located in the 8 WNY counties (includes Niagara County). Students must exemplify character in their daily lives.
    • Mar. 15 - Gerard J. Buckenmeyer FASNY Volunteer Scholarship -  The Firefighters Association of NYS will award 25 $1,500 scholarships to college-bound high school seniors.  Applicants must:
      • Be a member in good standing with FASNY or have a parent/legal guardian who is a member.
      • Attend high school as a senior who is enrolled in the fall 2024 school year at an accredited two- or four-year institution of higher learning or an accredited technical post-secondary school.
      • Serve as a current Junior firefighter, Explorer Scout or RAM in a group affiliated with a volunteer department; a volunteer firefighter; or a volunteer with an EMS unit.
      • Demonstrate a commitment to both volunteer emergency service and the community.
      • Note: Your fire company's membership in FASNY does not automatically make an individual a member of FASNY.  Current individual membership in FASNY is required.
    • ALSO VIA FASNY:  FASNY HELP Higher Education Learning Plan:
    • FASNY HELP  = Tuition reimbursement of up to $1500 per semester for active volunteer firefighters who are earning a two or four-year degree.
    • Mar. 29 - Li S. Liu, P.E. Memorial Scholarship - Scholarship available to WNY high school seniors who are accepted into an accredited engineering program.  NOTE: Two scholarships are listed on the same application.  The other scholarship, Richard Wohler, P.E. Memorial/Hutch-Tech Scholarship, is targeted for Senior students at Hutch-Tech and Buffalo high schools. Newfane students can still apply for the Li S. Liu Scholarship.
    • Mar. 30 - Kappa Upsilon Zeta - Willie Carney Harden Scholarship - $500 scholarship to a minority FEMALE college-bound graduating senior from Niagara or Erie Counties.  Must also have at least one birth parent who is a member of one of the following groups: Black/African American, Hispanic, Native American, African or Black/African Caribbean.  Must also have at least an 80% grade point average.
    • Mar. 30 - Kappa Upsilon Zeta - Connie C. Bowman Scholarship - $250 scholarship to a minority FEMALE college-bound graduating senior from Niagara or Erie Counties.  Must also have at least one birth parent who is a member of one of the following groups: Black/African American, Hispanic, Native American, African or Black/African Caribbean.  Must also have at least an 80% grade point average.
    • Mar. 30 -  Kappa Upsilon Zeta - Grace Shallowhorn "Silver Belle" Scholarship -  $1000 scholarship to a minority FEMALE college-bound graduating senior from Niagara or Erie Counties.  Must also have at least one birth parent who is a member of one of the following groups: Black/African American, Hispanic, Native American, African or Black/African Caribbean.  Must also have at least an 80% grade point average.
    • Mar. 31 -  Kenan Arts Council Scholarship - Two $1000 scholarships are available to graduating seniors intending to major in fine art, design, theater, dance, or music.
    • Mar. 31 - American Legion Auxiliary Post 205 Scholarship - $1000 scholarship to a college-bound Niagara or Erie County graduating student.  Selection based on scholastic ability, extracurricular activities, community involvement, and leadership potential.
    • Apr. 1 - Niagara County Assessors Association Scholarship - $500 cash award for a college-bound graduating Senior from a Niagara County high school who plans to attend a college within NY State in the fall of 2024.
    • Apr. 1 - Elks Lodge John Zieziula Community Service Scholarship  - Must be majoring in one of the following college majors/programs:  Law enforcement, social services, community management, and emergency and medical services.
    • Apr. 1 - Elks Lodge Rodney Conrad Memorial Scholarship - Must be planning on a 4 year degree program in one of the following college majors/programs:  Education, engineering, sciences, humanities, business, accounting, or mathematics.
    • Apr. 12 - Niagara County Sheriff's Office Victim Services Scholarship  - $500 scholarship for a Niagara County graduating Senior student.
    • Apr. 15 - NY District Kiwanis Foundation Scholarship - Minimum of four scholarships to be awarded.  Applicants must have:  participated in both school and community activities that demonstrate outstanding community service and leadership.  Financial need will also be part of the selection criteria.
    • Apr. 19 - Newfane Board of Education Scholarships - Three $1000 scholarships are available to graduating Newfane High School Senior students.  Students must use their Newfane student email account.  Respond to every question on the Google form - use "not applicable" if the question does not apply to you.
    • Apr. 22 - Delta Kappa Gamma Scholarship  - $500 scholarship to be awarded to a FEMALE Senior who has been accepted at a four-year institution with the goal of entering the teaching profession.  Applicants should have at least an  85% cumulative average and have participated in a variety of school and/or community activities.
    • Apr. 25 - Friendship Memorial Scholarships -  Several scholarships available only to college-bound graduating Seniors from Newfane High School.  Must have a minimum high school GPA of 2.5 (80%) and have participated in a high school sport.
    • Apr. 25 - Marnie Currie Quinones Memorial Scholarship - $1000 scholarship to a graduating college-bound Newfane High School FEMALE student.  Must have at least a "B" average (>80% or greater). Must be planning on attending college (2 or 4 year) and be involved in extracurricular activities (such as, but not limited to:  athletics, community/volunteer activities, school related activities, church youth group, employment, etc.).  Financial need is also considered.
    • May 1 - Newfane American Legion Lester Oakes Memorial Scholarship - $500 scholarship available to a graduating senior in the Newfane Central School District.  Must be a child of a current, or former, member of the U.S. Military or under legal guardianship of a current, or former, member.  Must be accepted into a two or four year college or trade/technical school.  Must have had a "B+" average (85% or above) in US History and Government or a "B" average (80% or above) in AP US History and have at least a "B" average across all high school social studies courses.  Must also be involved in community service activities.     • May 1 - Western NY Association of School Nurses Scholarship - Must be a graduating senior who will be attending a 4 year college for nursing in a BSN program (Bachelors of Science in Nursing 4 year program) - not for 2 year programs like NCCC, ECC, GCC, Trocaire or similar 2 year programs.
    • May 3 - Newfane Alumni Association Scholarship  - Must be a Newfane High School Senior or an alumni of Newfane High School.  The scholarships must be used to attend college or an accredited technical/trade school.  If you have any questions regarding this scholarship, please email: newfanealumni@newfanecentralschools.org (or see Mrs. Jill Keys- Newfane High School social studies teacher).
      •  4 scholarships available - Students can apply for as many of these scholarships as they are eligible for on the same NAA Scholarship application:
        • The Newfane Alumni Association will offer four $1000 scholarships to a graduating senior or to an alumnus currently or planning to attend college. Scholarships will be awarded for:
          • Academic Achievement
          • School and Community Service
          • Technical/Trade/Entrepreneurship
          • Alumni Perseverance
        • The John and Elsbeth Hamluk Memorial Scholarship will award $1,000 to a graduating senior from Newfane who has excelled in academics, leadership, and service to community. 
        • Kevin Newton Memorial Scholarship:  Kevin Newton displayed his love for baseball all of his life, including the years he spent on JV and Varsity Baseball and coaching midget B for the Panthers. The Newton family will provide a $500 scholarship to a graduating Newfane High School Senior who has participated actively in Panther Baseball throughout high school and displayed the traits exhibited by Kevin. 
        • The Newfane Lions Club will offer eight $3000 Scholarships to graduating seniors from Newfane. The Lions Club is a service organization that volunteers and raises funds to give back to those in their community that need a bit of extra help. Being a Lion is about leading by example, building relationships, and improving the world through kindness (Lions International). Academic excellence is not the top priority; in fact, the average student is ideal. All graduating seniors are encouraged to apply. Leo club members, trade/vocational students and those with community service history are highly encouraged to apply. Scholarship selection is based on the applicant’s goals, overview of work, community and school service, letters of recommendation, with an invitation to a final interview for the top candidates.
          • NOTE:  There is also a Lions Club scholarship specifically for Vocational students who plan to continue on to a secondary education program (trade/tech school or a community college for a trade).  Vocational students will still use the same online Newfane Alumni Scholarship application.
    • May 3 - American Legion Michael J. Kogutek Scholarship -  Two $1500 scholarships available.  Intended to assist 8th District NYS veterans, their families, and patriotic students who share the ideals of the American Legion.  Awarding of the scholarship will be based on veteran status (including family members), financial need, scholastic ability, realistic goals, extracurricular activities, and community involvement.  Students must be college-bound (2 or 4 year accredited college).
    • May 3 - Kiwanis Club of Niagara Wheatfield Tom Beachy Memorial Scholarship -  Must be a graduating high school senior in Niagara County.  Must participate in community service.  Must be/will be accepted to an accredited college or university and plan to pursue a career in education (not limited to classroom teaching:  Can be any special area of instruction like music, art, library, physical education, or such careers as school counselors or school psychologist).
    • May 3 - "Be a Victor" Scholarship - Three $5000 scholarships available to graduating Newfane High School college-bound Seniors (or alumni).
    • May 8 - Newfane PTSA Scholarship - Total of $3000 in scholarships available.  Open to any Newfane HS graduating senior who is a current PTSA member (must be a member by April 1st). If you are not currently a member, you can apply for membership online at: Newfane PTSA.
    • May 10 - Newfane American Legion Auxiliary Award - Two $250 scholarships to a graduating Senior students from Newfane High School who plan to attend college (2 or 4 year college).  Must also have been involved in community service activities and be the son, daughter or grandchild of a veteran.
    • May 10 - Kiwanis Club of Northern Niagara County- Donna Parent Memorial Scholarship - Must be a graduating senior.
    • May 16 -  Newfane Teachers Association Scholarship for a Newfane Senior -  $1000 scholarship to a college-bound (2 or 4 yr. college/university/trade/tech school) graduating Senior student from Newfane HS who has been involved in school and/or community activities, and has at least a "B" average (80% or greater). 

    • May 16 -Newfane Teachers Association Scholarship for a Senior of a NTA Member  -  $1000 scholarship to a college-bound (2 or 4 yr. college/university/trade/tech school) graduating Senior student of a Newfane Teachers Association (NTA) member (parent is a member of NTA) who has been involved in school and/or community activities, and has at least a "B" average (80% or greater). 

    • June 1 - Checkers Athletic Club Tom Donnelly Scholarship - Two $500 scholarships to Section 6 Track & Field or Cross Country athletes who have distinguished themselves through:  Volunteer activities within our community, academic achievement, and commitment to personal fitness.
  • July 31Encompass Niagara Federal Credit Union Scholarship - $500 scholarships to college-bound graduating high school student members in the Niagara Region.  Students must be a member of the credit union to be eligible.  Students who are not currently members can become a member by opening up a savings account with a minimum balance of $25 then can apply for the scholarship.
